Art History alumnae and professor speak at the Nineteenth-Century French Studies Conference

Fibers Tech and Printmaking Alumni Amy Cousins solo show at Illinois State University

You lot Will Never Have the Comfort of Our Silence Once more August 18 – October viii, 2017 Amy Cousins' large-scale sculptures and installations are based on her research into rare protest ephemera, out-of-print feminist newspapers, and commencement-person accounts of radical queer histories. From the Lesbian Feminist Annunciation of 1976 to the Gay Liberation Dances that emerged across the U.S. in the 1970s, Cousins reimagines these remarkable yet poorly documented events and reveals captivating examples of creativity in queer protestation. Her sculptural reinterpretations are produced with a range of processes and materials: wall hung appliqué textile figures, text made from shag fabric, a ten-human foot-tall papier-mâché boob, and an off-kilter tufted patent leather vinyl vitrine—complete with kinky lavender fur—to name a few. Erin M. Riley Alumni in Narrative Horizons at Moore

September 16 – December 9, 2017 Narrative Horizons presents the piece of work of iii women—Kay Healy, Sophia Narrett and Erin 1000. Riley—whose contemporary studio practices are heavily influenced by traditions steeped in functional craft and the handmade. Presented in conjunction with CraftNOW—a citywide exhibition examining the fluid boundaries that be around fine art, design and craft—this show considers how contemporary revivals of sewing, weaving and embroidery reflect the continuing feminist involvement in historical technique and play a crucial office in helping these artists understand the past while addressing identity in the nowadays and futurity. Artist Talk: Thursday, October 19, 6:30 pm.   Read More

Tyler Alumni Receives Leeway Grant

Grants are ane of the greatest resources for artists with a vision. Recently, a Tyler Alumna was the recipient of the Leeway Grant, a source of funds that provides a variety of awards to artists working towards social change in their practice. The Elbowroom Foundation seeks to amplify marginalized voices in art, providing creators with resources to accomplish their goals and participate in the making of a space in our culture for the unheard. Barbara Baur, a Tyler Alumna, was recently named as one of the recipients of the Elbowroom Foundation Art and Alter Grant. Baur is a multi-faceted artist and instructor at Tyler. Her work connects body adornment with art, and with the help of the Leeway Foundation will be bringing her expertise to new communities. Temple Analytics Challenge Winners from Tyler

Graphic and Interactive Design (GAID) seniors, Luke Harding and Charles Attisano, were awarded the first identify prize ($2500 award) in the graphics category for this twelvemonth's 5th Annual Temple University QVC Analytics Challenge, presented by the Institute for Business and Information technology at Play a trick on School of Business organisation. This twelvemonth's challenge offered students three data sets from the following companies: QVC, Pfizer and Comcast. The winning entry utilized movie sales data provided by Comcast that included information on motion picture budget and box office profit. The winning entry, titled Directing Success, analyzed this data and created an blithe infographic that tin can exist used to predict box office success. Jonathan Kline contributes 2 chapters to "Gli Affreschi delle Palazze / The Palazze Frescoes" (Gangemi Editore)

Assistant Professor Jonathan Kline published two capacity in an edited volume on the frescoes of a thirteenth-century monastery in Italian republic. The bilingual volume is titled Gli Affreschi delle Palazze: Una Storia tra Umbria e America / The Palazze Frescoes: A Tale between Umbria and America. To mark the publication of the volume, Dr. Kline and colleagues from Italia gave lectures on their research at Higher of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, and at Temple University. Read More
